Eva Nyström | Career In Pictures

There’s another new Hammer on the block. Eva Nyström is a West Ham United women’s team player following her move from Swedish side Hammarby.

The 25-year-old, who will wear the No13 shirt, will further add to Rehanne Skinner’s defensive options and is the Irons’ second signing of the January transfer window following the arrival of Verena Hanshaw.

Helsinki-born Nyström started her youth career with her local side FC Viikingit and progressed through the age groups before eventually making her senior debut in 2014 at only 15 years old.

The centre-back’s first-team experience earned her a move to Finland's top flight in 2016, as she joined PK-35 Vantaa. She played in the Kansallinen Liiga for three years, helping the club to win the title in her second season.

In January 2019, Nyström signed a one-year contract with AIK in the Swedish second division, and proved a useful source of goals, scoring eight times in 26 matches in her only season with the club.

After a spell at Umeå IK in the Damallsvenskan, Nyström signed for Hammarby in 2021, where she went on to make more than 100 appearances.

Hitting the ground running, Nyström established herself as a mainstay in Hammarby’s backline and propelled them to the top division title in 2023, playing 24 of their 26 league fixtures. The Finland international, with 14 caps to her name, also helped Hammarby lift the Svenska Cupen in the same campaign.

Bringing high-level experience to Chadwell Heath, Nyström started every one of Hammarby’s UEFA Women’s Champions League matches this term, including group-stage fixtures against current holders Barcelona, and Manchester City.
