Edu Rubio

Edu Rubio appointed assistant manager of West Ham United Women

West Ham United Women are delighted to confirm the appointment of Edu Rubio as assistant manager.

Rubio joins the Hammers after being at Crystal Palace for two seasons, where he worked as their Assistant Head of Coaching and a Professional Development Phase coach for the men’s academy.

The UEFA Pro license coach also has experience in the Football League, having previously held the Assistant Manager position at Crawley Town in 2019.

Before that, Rubio spent four years with MK Dons FC as Senior Professional Development Coach, where he oversaw the U18s and U23s during his time in the men’s Academy. He won U23s League and Cup, helping to contribute to a successful spell for the club, having several academy players making their debuts and establishing themselves into the first-team.

Rubio, throughout his coaching career of 15-plus years, has also held roles at Chelsea men’s academy, Valencia CF, the Nike Academy and The Football Association.

"When I got Konch’s (Paul Konchesky) call to join him as his assistant, I felt this was a great coaching and career opportunity for myself at this moment of time," Rubio told whufc.com.

"I am delighted to be working with elite players in an elite environment in such a prestigious club and I cannot wait to meet all the players and staff when pre-season begins on Monday."

On the appointment of Rubio as his number two, Konchesky said: “I’m delighted to add Edu to my coaching team. He brings 15 years of coaching on the grass with him, at a variety of different age groups.

"He’s worked with some elite players on the men’s side of the game and I hope he will be able to transfer that experience over to the women’s game.

“In Edu, Dani Bowman and Billy Stewart, we have a fantastic mixture of people – who all bring something different to the table. I’m really pleased that my backroom team is complete and I’m very excited for the beginning of the season."

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Edu to the Club, and we wish him well during his time here in East London.
