Earthy: U21s are up for tough PSV test

George Earthy says the entire West Ham United U21s squad is ready for the tough test that PSV Eindhoven will offer.

The Hammers continue a busy October schedule against PSV on Tuesday when the Dutch side visit east London in the Premier League International Cup.

Despite defeats in recent outings, the Irons have been putting on superb showings and Earthy feels the team can get a positive result against their international oppositions at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

PSV will be a good test. It’ll be a good game to play in, against a side from a different country. We’ll all be up for a tough game.

“The Chelsea game on Saturday was a similar situation to the MK Dons game,” the midfielder told whufc.com. “We played really well but didn’t have a result to show for it. We’re playing better in every single game and we’re building momentum, but we’re just lacking that goal at the moment. I think, once we get one, we’ll be off and going.

“We keep saying it and we’re repeating ourselves but if we score against PSV then I’m sure we’re going to do alright. We want to recover from Chelsea on Saturday and be fully ready to go again.

“They’ll be a good test. It’ll be a good game to play in, against a side from a different country. We’ll all be up for a tough game.”

The U21s have utilised a 3-5-2 formation in recent games, and Earthy is relishing his role as the attacking midfielder in Mark Robson’s young development side.

The 18-year-old is eager to play his part in helping the side return to winning ways.

“The 3-5-2 is working for us at the moment. We’re all used to playing in it and the lads who aren’t are adapting to it very quickly. I think it’s an advantage to us that we can switch it up and play in different ways.

“We’ve got a fit, ready team and we’re getting after teams from the first whistle. We’re chasing these teams, getting after them and we just got to get the goal now. It’s just down to that bit now. We’ll take any bit of luck as long as the goal goes in!”
