A rare goal for George McCartney sealed an impressive away win against Cardiff City as the Hammers continued their push for promotion to the Premier League on this day in 2012.

Kevin Nolan slotted the visitors into a half-time lead two minutes before the break when he placed a first-time shot into the corner of the net from Nicky Maynard's pass.

Peter Whittingham struck a post as the hosts looked for an equaliser, before full-back McCartney made the game safe with 77 minutes on the clock.

The strike was just the left-back's second for the Club, but a crucial one nonetheless as the Hammers looked to secure a return to the top-flight.
