West Ham United picked up a valuable away Premier League win against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Cardiff City on this day in 2014.

Carlton Cole gave the Hammers the lead shortly before half-time, rounding off a neat passing move with a powerful finish past David Marshall.

Sam Allardyce's side spent most of the second period under sustained Cardiff pressure and were reduced to ten men in the 72nd minute, James Tomkins given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

But the introduction of Andy Carroll from the bench after eight months out through injury brought a renewed confidence to West Ham in South Wales, and it was the big striker who led a swift counter-attack in added time, picking out Mark Noble just inside the box; the experienced midfielder made no mistake with his finish to secure a crucial three points.
