Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Heineken...
West Ham United recorded their second home win of the 1996/97 Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the Boleyn Ground on this day, 19 October.
A solitary second-half strike from John Moncur was the difference between the two sides in a fiery encounter that saw seven yellow cards and a late red for Foxes defender Steve Walsh. By then, West Ham had taken the lead, though.
Portuguese playmaker Hugo Porfirio collected a pass from Michael Hughes, danced through the Leicester defence and cut the ball back for Moncur, who fired a first-time shot low past Kasey Keller 12 minutes from full-time.
A slow start to the 1996/97 season would ultimately be offset by a fine run of form in the spring for Harry Redknapp’s side, who finished the season in 14th place.
