Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, presented by Heineken...
Two goals from Frédéric Kanouté, added to Frank Lampard's sixth-minute opener, helped West Ham United see off a spirited Walsall side in an FA Cup third round tie on this day in 2001.
The Saddlers were en route to winning promotion to the second tier and showed glimpses of that form by levelling the tie, and then reducing the deficit to 3-2 late on, but West Ham's Premier League quality got them over the line.
It was to be a memorable cup run with the Hammers going to Old Trafford 22 days later and knocking Premier League champions Manchester United out. Paolo Di Canio famously won the battle of minds against Fabien Barthez to seal the victory with just 14 minutes left on the clock.
The Irons would go on to beat Sunderland away in the fifth round before finally losing 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur at the quarter-final stage.
