West Ham United Women claimed their second win of the Barclays Women’s Super League season with a 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa on this day in 2022.

An early headed goal from captain Dagny Brynjarsdottir got the Hammers off to the best possible start in the West Midlands before Japan midfielder Honoka Hayashi then added a second, her first goal for the Club, eleven minutes later.

The home side went close with efforts from Anna Patten and former Hammer Rachel Daly, but West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was in fine form at Bescot Stadium in Walsall, making a number of brilliant saves to keep her team in front, including her second penalty stop of the WSL campaign from another ex-Hammer, Alisha Lehmann.

Yet another former Hammer, French midfielder Kenza Dali, fired in for Villa with 15 minutes to play, before her compatriot Hawa Cissoko was sent-off for Paul Koncheksy's Irons in added time at the end of the second half to make the closing exchanges tense for the away side.

However, West Ham held on to bring a valuable three points home with them, and you can watch the action again here with West Ham TV!
