On This Day: Citizens crushed in east London

West Ham United had a Monday night to remember on this date in the calendar 30 years ago when they saw off Manchester City at the Boleyn Ground.

The Hammers were down in 17th place in the Premier League and had just been knocked out of the League Cup by Nottingham Forest when City came to town, but they ensured their form improved.

David Burrows, Matt Holmes and Lee Chapman - one of eleven goals that season for the frontman - were on target as the hosts eased to a 3-1 victory.

The three points lifted West Ham up to 15th and they ended the campaign two places higher in the table.
