On This Day: Bowen bags home debut goal as West Ham United see off Southampton

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Heineken...

While not quite 'On This Day', as it were - this particular memory stems from 29 February two years ago, a leap year - Jarrod Bowen scored his first West Ham United goal in a vital 3-1 victory over Southampton around this time in 2020!

The new Hammer scored on his London Stadium debut to kickstart a performance full of attacking intent throughout.

The Irons got off to a brilliant start in front of the last crowd to play at London Stadium in the 2019/20 season - the onset of the global pandemic saw stadia closed a few weeks after - with Bowen taking less than a quarter-of-an-hour to put the Hammers ahead with a calm finish from Pablo Fornals' pass.

The Saints struck back inside the first half through Michael Obafemi's placed shot, but a show of strength from Sebastien Haller restored West Ham's lead shortly before the half-time whistle.

Strike partner Michail Antonio added a degree of comfort with a direct goal early on in the second half, a just reward for a game which saw many of West Ham's creative talents rise to the fore.
