Dagný Brynjarsdóttir was delighted to score what turned out to be the winner for West Ham United in their derby day win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Icelandic midfielder scored her second goal of the season in the win over Spurs, as Olli Harder’s side moved up to fifth in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table.
It was poetic that the Hammers fan was the one to find the net, and she was pleased to add to her tally of goals for the club.
“It was a lot of fun to score against Tottenham," Brynjarsdóttir told whufc.com. "It was my first game against Spurs, I know it’s a derby game so it’s great to get the three points and to have scored the goal.
“I think I could of scored some more goals so far, hopefully I’m going to finish my chances better and its coming. But yeah, I got one chance today and I finished it so I’m happy with that.”
It’s been a positive week for the Hammers, having dispatched Birmingham in the Continental Tyres League Cup and been unlucky in their draw with Reading last weekend.
It’s seven points in all competitions for Harder’s side, and Brynjarsdóttir was pleased to have those points on the board.
“Yeah, obviously we wanted the three points against Reading as well so its disappointing we couldn’t take them home that game. But seven points out of nine this week so we can’t really complain.
“We weren’t that happy with the first half today, so at half time we had a discussion about what we needed to do, and we all knew what we needed to do to be better.
“When we came out in the second half, we did it better and managed the game well towards the end which hasn’t been our strength this season.”
It was the midfielder’s first taste of a derby day, and she was pleased to be on the right side today against Tottenham Hotspur.
“Tottenham are a good team and there was a lot of fights, free kicks, people on the ground – we did a lot of the dirty work today but we did it well and put up a good fight on the field.
"At the end of the day, we kept the clean sheet and got the goal, which is the most important thing!"
