Aaron Cresswell in action against Brighton

Cresswell: We've got to put this right

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell is determined to bounce back after his team fell to a third straight Premier League defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at London Stadium.

Alex Mac Allister struck the opener from the spot, while Leandro Trossard secured Brighton all three points with a calm finish midway through the second half.

Jarrod Bowen and Tomáš Souček were both denied late on by Robert Sánchez, while Cresswell also went close - to what would have been an equaliser - when his fierce effort was blocked by Joël Veltman.

The Hammers No3 lamented a sluggish performance in east London, as West Ham were unable to build on a midweek victory over Viborg FF and fell to defeat against Graham Potter's men.

“It’s very disappointing,” Cresswell remarked, honestly. “We know man-to-man it is not good enough at the minute.

"It’s a crucial time to get their [first] goal, but we’ve got to react. It’s the same with the second goal: it’s sloppy."

Aaron Cresswell and David Moyes

David Moyes’ men travel to Denmark to face Viborg in the second leg of our UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round on Thursday 25 August, before a trip to Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday 28 August.

The Hammers have the chance to secure their qualification for the group stage and also pick up their first points of the Premier League season in their next two fixtures.

And Cresswell is adamant the Hammers can return to form swiftly.

“We’ve been on a fantastic run the last few years, so [a poor run of form is] something that we’re not used to,” the Hammers No3 stated.

“But we need to pick it up, and put this right as soon as possible. We’ve got to stick together and look forward to the next game.

“There’s still a long way to go. There’s no panic stations. It’s not the start we wanted, but we’ve got to put that right.

“As a team, we have to stay positive.”
