Conor Coventry completes Charlton Athletic transfer

West Ham United can confirm that Academy product Conor Coventry has completed a permanent transfer to EFL League One club Charlton Athletic.

The 23-year-old midfielder bids farewell to the Hammers with ten first-team appearances to his name, having joined his boyhood Club at the age of ten. His contract was due to expire at the end of this season.

An impressive rise to the senior ranks saw Coventry captain various sides throughout the age-groups, before making his senior debut against Macclesfield Town in the Carabao Cup in September 2018, little over a year after signing his first professional contract.

A maiden Premier League outing followed at home to Manchester City at the start of last season, while 2022/23 also saw the Waltham Forest-born starlet feature five times in Europe, en route to the Irons’ UEFA Europa Conference League title win.

On the international stage, Coventry has represented the Republic of Ireland at various youth levels. He was crowned the FAI International U21 Player of the Year for 2021, and remains the country’s all-time record holder for U21 appearances with 28 caps.

Meanwhile, Coventry has made over 50 EFL appearances during successful loan spells away from West Ham over the past four years, at Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Rotherham United.

After completing the most recent of those temporary stints with the Millers at the end of the last campaign, he will now look to secure regular football at The Valley with Charlton, who currently sit 13th in the third-tier standings.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Conor for his efforts during his time at the Club, and wish him well for his future career.
