Bowen celebrates

Bowen nominated for Premier League Player of the Month award

Jarrod Bowen has been nominated for the EA Sports FC Premier League Player of the Month award for September.

West Ham United’s No20 continued his fine start to the season with three goals in the Hammers’ four top-flight fixtures played in the month, including two in victories over Luton Town and Sheffield United and a diving header in the defeat at Liverpool.

Bowen, who had previously scored in the draw at AFC Bournemouth and win at Brighton & Hove Albion in August, has now netted in a joint Club record four straight away top-flight matches to start a new season, matching the achievement of the Irons’ all-time record marksman Vic Watson in 1930/31.

The 26-year-old maintained his form on Friday 1 September, when he headed Lucas Paquetá’s cross past Thomas Kaminski to open the scoring in the 2-1 win over Luton at Kenilworth Road.

Three weeks later, he used his head again to divert Vladimír Coufal’s cross past Alisson Becker and into the Liverpool net at Anfield to equalise, albeit the Hammers went on to lose 3-1.

And Bowen’s superb September was complete when he again converted a Coufal cross with a first-time finish, this time to steer past Wes Foderingham with his left foot to break the deadlock in the 2-0 home win over Sheffield United last weekend.

The forward now has five goals and one assist to his name in seven Premier League appearances in 2023/24, having scored the last-minute winner in West Ham’s UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina in Prague in his final appearance of last season!

Bowen is nominated alongside Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, Kieran Trippier of Newcastle United and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The winner of the EA Sports FC Premier League Player of the Month award for September will be announced on Friday 13 October at 11am BST.
