Atkinson named in Republic of Ireland squad for upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

Izzy Atkinson has been named in Republic of Ireland's 23-player squad for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. 

Head Coach Vera Pauw has selected the 21-year-old winger for the competition, which is taking place in Australia and New Zealand throughout July and August. 

Atkinson was initially on Pauw's standby list when the provisional 31-player squad was named, but impressed in a short cameo in a 3-2 win against Zambia in their first warm-up fixture ahead of the competition, prompting a selection for the countries first ever World Cup campaign. 

Atkinson and company have friendly matches against France and Colombia before beginning against hosts Australia in their opening Group B match on Thursday 20 July.

They then face Canada and Nigeria on Wednesday 26 July and Monday 31 July respectively to round off the group stage.
