West Ham United women’s team forward Viviane Asseyi has been shortlisted for the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award for December.
The France international scored two goals in as many games before the Christmas break, as well as adding an assist to her name.
Asseyi netted the opening goal in the Hammers’ 5-2 rout at home to Crystal Palace at the beginning of the month, capping off a sensational team move with a slotted finish at the back post after neat build-up play from Manuela Paví, Riko Ueki and Seraina Piubel.
She was then on hand to knock the ball past Palace goalkeeper Shae Yañez for Paví to tap home what proved to be the winning goal at Chigwell Construction Stadium.
A week later Asseyi was on target again, this time at Villa Park to conjure up an equaliser as she peeled off at the back post to head home Katrina Gorry’s inswinging left-footed delivery, taking her tally this term to seven goals in all competitions.
Asseyi is up against Steph Catley and Alessia Russo of Arsenal, as well as Tottenham Hotspur’s Bethany England, Sara Holmgaard of Everton and Manchester United’s Dominique Janssen for the award.
