Viviane Asseyi

Asseyi | We have a really competitive run of games coming up, and we like that

Fresh from getting back amongst the goals at the weekend, Viviane Asseyi is enjoying West Ham United women’s team’s busy schedule - which they continue at home to Liverpool in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Wednesday.

The France international put in a ruthless attacking display against Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday, assisting Shekiera Martinez with a teasing, inswinging corner before calmly slotting the ball home from 12 yards to double the Hammers’ advantage.

That was Asseyi’s fourth WSL strike this term, taking her tally to eight in all competitions, and the attacker has been indispensable in front of goal for the Irons this season.

She rounded off an electrifying team move against Leicester City to claim the women’s team’s first WSL victory of the campaign, which was bookended by braces in the Subway® Women’s League Cup against Portsmouth and London City Lionesses. Asseyi also chipped in with a goal and an assist in Rehanne Skinner’s side’s 5-2 victory against Crystal Palace before finding the back of the net against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

“I’m a striker, and my job is to help the team by scoring goals and providing assists,” she said.

“I’m also really happy for Shekiera [Martinez] for scoring her first goal. It was a team effort against Everton, and if I can do my best for the team, I will do it, always.

“It’s always good when you win. We work hard every day, and we were really concentrated on playing better [than against Chelsea], and it was a great performance from the team.”

The visit of Liverpool is the women’s team’s fourth match in eleven days, but Asseyi is taking each match as it comes and is excited to play in three different competitions.

She said: “It will be recovery, recovery, recovery, we need that. It’s good to have the possibility to play in the FA Cup, the League Cup, the league. It’s really competitive and we like that. Now we have to get ready for the next game [against Liverpool].

“We know we’ve made some mistakes in the past, so we worked hard for that [to put those mistakes right] and we have a lot of games coming up. We take each match game by game.”
