Viviane Asseyi reinforced the importance of the strong togetherness in the West Ham United women’s team squad after her side secured a clean sheet and maximum points to earn London derby bragging rights with a 2-0 Barclays Women’s Super League victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
Rehanne Skinner’s side put in an excellent performance, which started with an early breakthrough, that came through an own-goal inside 16 first-half minutes.
Asseyi then wrapped up the points for the Hammers by finishing past Lize Kop in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.
“I feel really good. We all felt really good. It was important for us to win today," said the France international.
“Yes [it was my goal], but Riko [Ueki] did very well. I think if she doesn't make this run [across goal], they would have got the ball. It's a team goal, so I'm really happy about that. I think we deserved this win.
“We were pushing all the time, and when you work hard, of course at the end you will have good results. It was a really good team performance.”
Asseyi may have been the player to seal the three points at Chigwell Construction Stadium, but the striker is eager to share the credit around.
And she was quick to praise her teammates and the squad in general for helping her net her tenth goal this season in all competitions.
She said: “I’m happy to be on this team, and we want to just keep going. I really enjoy it. I cannot enjoy it alone. I enjoy it because my teammates around me make me be in the best position. Every day we work hard. Every day we get better and better.
“I really enjoy it [playing here at Chigwell Construction Stadium]. I know the pitch, I know everything about this stadium, and also the fans always push us. We don't have limits, so we have to give everything. We know that we are good at home, so it's a good three points for us.”
Next up is a meeting with Chelsea on Sunday 30 March at Kingsmeadow, and Asseyi believes the Hammers are ready to lock horns with the reigning WSL champions after our strong recent form.
“The other teams that we have to play are really strong. We know that, but we are strong too," she said.
“We need to recover, of course, but we will be ready for the next game [against Chelsea].”
