Viviane Asseyi made a short cameo in France’s 4-0 victory over Morocco in their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup round of 16 game on Tuesday afternoon.
Having beaten Panama, Brazil and drawn with Jamaica to reach the knockout stages, Herve Renard’s side faced off against Morocco at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide, looking to set-up a quarter-final tie with Australia.
Indeed, France are 67 places above Morocco in FIFA’s world rankings and their superior quality was evident in the first half, with Kadidiatou Diani scoring the game's opening goal 15 minutes.
She would then turn provider for former Hammer Kenza Dali to notch their second five minutes later, before Eugenie Le Sommer slotted home a third after Morocco's Nesryne El Chad slammed a clearance against Dianni and the ball fell into the path of the forward.
Le Sommer added her second and her country's fourth of the game on 70 minutes as Morocco began to tire, sealing their place in the quarter finals.
Asseyi was introduced on 90 minutes, making her second appearance at the finals after featuring from the bench in the 6-3 win over Panama.
France will now prepare for the clash against Australia, which could see Asseyi face Club teammate Mackenzie Arnold. The two nations will face off at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday 12 August at 8am BST.
It means that four West Ham United players could feature in the final eight, with Honoka Hayashi and Risa Shimizu also reaching the quarter-final stage with Japan, who will face Sweden at 8.30am BST on Friday.
