Abbey Leigh Stringer: Leicester clash will be a good game

West Ham United Women’s midfielder, Abbey-Leigh Stringer is looking forward to the prospect of facing Leicester City this afternoon, as the Hammers go in search of their first three points of the season.

The holding midfielder has played 90 minutes in both of the east Londoners opening two matches, and is hoping that the team can build on some of the positives from those matches.

“We’ve had lots of opportunities in the opening two matches that we’ve not been able to take so far,” Stringer told whufc.com. “The top four clubs all take those opportunities when they come their way, and that’s what we’re aiming to be, so we need to do the same.

“We’re not miles away from what we want to achieve, I just feel like we need to keep doing what we’re doing, which is working hard and being strong in both boxes, then the results will come.”

The Hammers were perhaps slightly unfortunate against both Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa in their opening two games- with Stringer believing that the team will have enough about them to take all three points against newly promoted Leicester.

I think that we’ve been really unlucky to only come away with only one point from our opening two games. The Brighton game was tough because I thought we started so well, and then we went down to 10 players. Then, against Villa, to concede last minute was tough to take.

“I think that Leicester will be very aggressive on the front foot,” Stinger continued. “They will press high and try and disrupt the way we play. I don’t think that we can underestimate them – they’ve come up this season but that doesn’t mean that they won’t give us a good game. I think it will be a really good game.

“I feel as though if we give 100%, then I’m confident that we have enough about us to get the three points.”

Tickets for the clash against the Foxes are on sale from the ticket office at the Chigwell Construction Stadium from around 1pm this afternoon.
