West Ham United got off to the perfect start in this season's UEFA Europa League after goals from Michail Antonio and Declan Rice gave them three impressive points at Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.
The Hammers were the dominant force in the first half at Maksimir Stadium and deservedly took the lead when Antonio took advantage of an error from home defender Kévin Théophile-Catherine to round the goalkeeper and open the scoring.
While the home team threatened to draw level briefly early on in the second, Declan Rice’s solo run and superb finish gave the Europa League group-stage debutants an unassailable advantage.
West Ham were well in control for much of the contest, quelling Dinamo’s threat and securing a second straight clean sheet which ensured that the three points would be theirs.
