Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 24th minute strike was enough to settle the contest, despite West Ham United enjoying over two-thirds of the ball.
Saïd Benrahma nodded just over, while Vladimír Coufal hit the post in the second half, but Everton stood firm to limit the Hammers' chances.
