On This Day: Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie star against Spurs

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United climbed to fifth in the First Division table with a 2-1 Easter Monday victory over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur on this day in 1986.

The prolific forward duo of Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie were both on target as John Lyall's side delighted the capacity crowd at the Boleyn Ground.

Cottee opened the scoring on 17 minutes, racing onto Alan Dickens' through ball and applying an ice-cool finish past Ray Clemence.

Ossie Ardiles equalised five minutes later, but West Ham would not be denied as McAvennie drove home the winner from close-range after Clemence had saved Cottee's initial effort.

The Irons went on to finish a record-high third in the table, whilst Spurs finished tenth.
