It was a tough evening for West Ham United U23s as they were beaten 4-1 by Blackburn Rovers U23s in their latest Premier League 2 Division 1 outing at the Lancashire FA Ground.
The young Hammers missed a number of chances in the first period and found themselves behind after a penalty from Rovers winger Connor Mcbride gave the home side the lead.
Shortly after the break Blackburn doubled their advantage, McBride stealing in at the back post to tap home unchallenged.
To their credit, Dmitri Halajko's side rallied and got a deserved goal back through Keenan Forson, the midfielder's deflected effort setting up an intriguing final half an hour in Leyland.
It was the hosts, however, who managed to extend their lead just ten minutes later, Irons defender Manny Longelo turning a stinging cross into his own net to make it 3-1.
Luke Brennan completed the scoring for Blackburn Rovers with a well-worked passing move late on, ensuring the points stayed in Lancashire.
