Tomáš Souček: We wanted the three points

Tomáš Souček felt West Ham United left two points on the pitch after they were twice pegged back by Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Hammers looked in a good position to maintain their 100 per cent start to the campaign when Pablo Fornals – in the first half – and Michail Antonio after the break edged them in front.

But two Conor Gallagher strikes in response meant the spoils would be shared, leaving Souček and the Hammers with a tinge of frustration that they could not complete the job.

Nevertheless, West Ham are still undefeated and ended the day top of the table, so there were positives for the Czech Republic man to reflect on too.

“We’re disappointed because we wanted three points,” he admitted. “We got the draw, but I think we didn’t show our quality on the pitch like we should. Twice we were winning and we should manage the game better than we did.

“Now we have seven points from three games – it’s very good and an achievement for us, but when we had six points from the first two, we wanted to make it nine.

“We have scored ten goals in three games, which is very good. On the other side we have conceded five goals, which is too much for us.

“We wanted a clean sheet today, but Palace got two goals, so we need to prepare our defending for the next game.

“It’s still good, we’re unbeaten so it’s a good start.”

Souček has enjoyed the experience of playing in front of a full London Stadium for the first time in 18 months this week, and says the players really felt the support of the Claret & Blue Army.

He added: “The atmosphere is incredible, I really like the anthem of the Club, Bubbles, when we go onto the pitch.

“During the game I heard them and when we conceded a goal they supported us more and more. They’ve really helped us in these two games and I hope we can give it back to them on the pitch.”
