On This Day: Zavon Hines strikes late to down Aston Villa

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

A thrilling last-gasp victory over ten-man Aston Villa hauled West Ham United out of the Premier League drop zone for the first time since late September on this day in 2009.

Academy of Football graduate Zavon Hines was the hero, collecting a pass from Scott Parker - who returns to east London as Fulham manager this coming Saturday evening - and prodding past Brad Friedel in the third minute of added time.

Earlier, Mark Noble had converted a West Ham penalty - won by Hines - on the stroke of half-time to put Gianfranco Zola's side in front.

Ashley Young then saw his own spot-kick saved by Robert Green just after the break, but levelled soon afterwards with a curling effort that was more cross than shot.

Villa full-back Habib Beye was then sent-off for a foul on Jonathan Spector, before Hines popped up to score a dramatic winner which was celebrated wildly on the pitch and in the stands.
