West Ham United U23s fell to a 3-2 defeat against Derby County U23s at Loughborough University Stadium on Monday night.
Despite late goals from Conor Coventry and Oladapo Afolayan, the Hammers were unable to turn the tide after Jack Stretton's hat-trick had put the hosts in control.
Dmitri Halajko's side battled admirably in the second period but were ultimately made to pay for their slow start.
The loss means West Ham stay 12th in the Premier League 2 Division 1 table, ahead of the visit of Liverpool U23s on Friday 6 November.
