On This Day: Jarvis and Nolan lift West Ham United past Wigan Athletic

Goals from Matt Jarvis and Kevin Nolan lifted West Ham United past Wigan Athletic and into the top half of the Premier League table on this day in 2013.

The newly-promoted Hammers were not at their best at the Boleyn Ground, but still edged past Roberto Martinez's Latics.

Jarvis opened the scoring with his first home goal in Claret and Blue when his cross eluded everybody inside the penalty area and dropped into the bottom corner.

Nolan was then denied a penalty by referee Neil Swarbrick after claiming he had been tripped, but the captain would not be denied, hooking home expertly from Andy Carroll's pass with just over ten minutes to play to make the points safe.

West Ham would go on to finish tenth, while Wigan went on to suffer relegation, but did win the FA Cup.
