West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will look to evaluate the fitness of Jack Wilshere ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash with Burnley.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Hammers manager also reaffirmed that he expects fellow midfielder Michail Antonio to be available for selection in time for the home game against Tottenham after the international break.
Wilshere has not been involved in the last two matchday squads, having made a positive impression in six early-season appearances, while Antonio has been recovering from surgery for a hamstring injury he sustained at Newport County in August.
“About Antonio, I think that after the international break he will be ready,” Pellegrini said.
“With Jack Wilshere, we will have to evaluate him for Saturday – we need to see him working tomorrow.”
Pellegrini also offered updates on the timelines for the recoveries of defensive duo Lukasz Fabianski and Winston Reid.
Last season’s Hammer of the Year Fabianski underwent surgery on his hip muscle last month, having exited the field during the Hammers’ 2-2 draw at Bournemouth in August.
Reid, meanwhile, was last week seen sporting a Claret and Blue shirt for Dmitri Halajko’s Under-23s side, the next step in his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in a freak accident at Swansea City in March 2018.
“Lukasz Fabianski needs more time,” Pellegrini confirmed. “He needs at least one month more, or a month and a half.
“Winston Reid has played some minutes for the Under-23s. He’s now continuing to prepare to play a complete game.”
