Chicharito felt that Saturday’s performance against Newcastle United was perfect as Declan Rice and Mark Noble helped guide the Hammers to all three points.
The Mexican international played a crucial part in the match and helped win a penalty after he was brought down by Florian Lejeune inside the area. Noble stepped up and calmly dispatched the spot kick just before half-time.

The striker said: “It was perfect because we managed to keep a clean sheet, we scored two goals, we generated a lot of chances so yes, it was a very good match and now we’re going to think about Cardiff to try and get three points and get into the European places.
“I want to thank the boss and all his staff because I’m trying to be in my best shape, I hadn’t scored that much, but I [was fouled for] a penalty today, they have given me their trust and the most important thing is that the team is getting the results.
“That’s the great thing about internal competition, we’re all fighting for a starting spot, we all want to play as much as possible and now I want to thank the coach by playing well which is the best possible way.
“I don’t leave today 100% happy because as every striker I want to score goals, but we know that the most important thing are the results, to play well and get three points so can’t complain really.”
Now the attention turns to Saturday with a trip to the Cardiff City Stadium where another important three points are up for grabs, as the Hammers continue to chase European football.
Chicharito added: “I’m only thinking about Cardiff, working for the coach to give me the chance to start again, play my best, score goals and help the team. Right now we just need to play well so we can finish in a European spot.
“This club is in a transition in which it wants to qualify every year for Europe, that’s the idea and that’s why they hired this coaching staff and a lot of players, we’re playing in this stadium that can fit 60,000 fans so that’s the idea in the short, medium and long term.
“We want to start doing it this year and help the club get used to be always fighting to finish in a top-seven spot."
