Pellegrini nominated for Manager of the Month award

Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has been shortlisted for the Barclays Manager of the Month award for December.

The West Ham United boss guided the Irons to the best month in the club’s 25-year Premier League history.

The Hammers won five times in seven games, including four straight matches to start the month, to collect 15 points and rise into the top half of the table.

December kicked-off with an impressive 3-0 success at Newcastle United, followed by home wins over Cardiff City and Crystal Palace and a 2-0 victory at Fulham. And a fifth three-point haul of the month arrived at Southampton on 27 December.

Despite being without a number of senior players due to injury and illness, West Ham scored 13 goals in their seven games in December and kept clean sheets at St James’ Park and Craven Cottage.

The Chilean won the Manager of the Month award on four previous occasions, including December 2013 and December 2014, during his successful three-season spell in charge at Manchester City.

Pellegrini has strong competition for the award this time around, however, with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nuno Espirito Santo also shortlisted.

The winner will be announced at 12noon on Friday 11 January 2019.
