West Ham United's U21 side were beaten 2-0 in their opening Checkatrade Trophy fixture at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.
Goals from Alex Jakubiak and Tom Lockyer sealed the win for the League One hosts, who fielded a strong starting XI against the east Londoners' youngsters.
Xande Silva went close to giving the Hammers the lead in the first half but Rovers ultimately proved too strong in the Group L opener.
