Nathan Trott expressed his pride after putting in a solid display between the sticks to help West Ham United’s U23 side to a 1-0 away victory against Manchester City in Premier League 2.
The Hammers travelled to City’s Football Academy on the back of three weeks without a fixture, but started quickly in the north west and soon took the lead through Marcus Browne’s unstoppable free-kick from 25 yards.
Trott denied the hosts on countless occasions throughout the opening period before making a couple of crucial stops in the second 45 too, holding onto a clean sheet and helping his team achieve maximum points.
The England U20 keeper was just one impressive individual in a team full of terrific performances though, and he was delighted for the whole squad at the final whistle.
“I think everyone before the game, we had a game plan that we stuck to and I think that everyone kind of put 100 per cent effort into the game,” he said. “It worked out at the end.
“In that game you have to take your opportunities and we took our one opportunity. We had more and we could have scored more, but we’ll take the goal and we defended really well throughout the whole game.
I was really proud of my performance. This is what goalkeepers are supposed to do you know; you're supposed to make these big saves in big games.

Browne’s free-kick – his second goal of the season – came ten minutes before the break, and Trott revealed nobody was surprised to see the forward smash the set-piece in off the inside of the post.
“Browney works on his free-kicks in training and I think that it game on the perfect day,” the stopper explained. “That’s probably what got us the result today.
“The whole team are really close in training so when it comes in matches and we work together like that, it’s nothing strange and we know it’s going to happen. We have a game plan and it really worked out today.
“It’s another tough game at Everton [on Monday]. We know that Everton are a really great team and I think it will be another tough 90 minutes. Everyone needs to be prepared, get rested and get ready to go again.”
