Highlights - Middlesbrough 0-1 West Ham United PL2

Middlesbrough 0-1 West Ham United PL2

FT:
Terry Westley will be delighted with that performance - creative and classy at times, while sturdy and strong others. Brilliant victory - onto the next one! Over and out from the Riverside Stadium.

FT: That's it! The Hammers hold on and are 1-0 winners thanks to Hector-Ingram's first half goal. A superb win after yesterday's long journey. Get in!

90+2: And then straight up the other end, Sam Ford comes inches away from making it two. His curled effort is just wide. A minute remaining!

90+1: Wow, what a chance for Boro, but the Hammers hang in there! A scuffed shot finds its way to sub Mondal at the back post but his attempt slides across the face of goal. That was close!

90: Cooke smashes one well over. We're into added time.

88: It was a cynical challenge from the midfielder, but if the Hammers hold out, one he'll argue was justified. It broke down the Boro attack - a real 'take one for the team' type of challenge.

87: They'll have to attempt to do so with ten men. Second booking for Moses Makasi, who receives his marching orders.

86: A few strikes at goal from Boro smash into white shirts. The Hammers are certainly putting their bodies on the line tonight! Just a few moments longer - come on you Irons!

84: Marcus Browne has another late one left on him. Booking for Lewis Maloney - that was the strongest challenge of the lot!

81: Boro now are finally mounting some pressure. Alex Pike hacks one clear in the box and Quina does the same moments later. Can the Irons hold out for all three points? Nine minutes remaining.

79: Penalty appeal for the Hammers! Dan Kemp completes a lovely reverse turn inside the area and looked to have been clipped on the heels. He goes down but the referee shakes his head. And, after the piece of action, the winger is replaced by Jaanai Gordon.

78: Vashon Neufville has been a real livewire at left-back tonight, too. There aren't many Hammers out there who you can claim haven't played well. A solid performance all over the park so far.

75: Still Boro are struggling to build any kind of meaninful pressure. The Hammers are in charge with 15 minutes remaining in this PL2 clash.

69: Off comes on goalscorer Jahmal Hector-Ingram, and he's replaced by striker Sam Ford.

66: Rasping drive from 25 yards from Domingos Quina, but it's down the middle and the keeper saves. Either side of Fryer, and it could have been 2-0 to the Hammers, there.

65: After a corner for the hosts, West Ham break through Browne and as Quina collects, they slow things down to grab a breather. Westley will want his boys to try and regain the control here with 25 minutes remaining.

63: Morelli is coming off here for Boro and Junior Mondal comes on.

61: Boro are starting to push forward and swing some cross into the box, but at the moment, Pike and Rice are dealing with everything. The Hammers still in front.

58: Sub for the Hammers are Sam Westley is replaced by Tunji Akinola. The defender slots in at right-back so it's like-for-like for the Hammers.

56: Well, just as we say that, De Pena hits one at Sam Howes who fumbles the shot, turns around and claws it back off the line...the linesman doesn't flag, so that one *just* stayed out. The Hammers get away with one there!

55: The Hammers aren't sending too many forward to close down right now, but Boro aren't troubling the Londoners. Everything, at the moment, is under control at the Riverside.

51: It's fair to say Quina has been everywhere this evening. He seems incredibly home at number four in midfield.

49: Neither side have been able to hold onto the ball as yet in this second half, but Boro are yet to really trouble Sam Howes tonight. They need to mount some pressure to get back into this game, but Dec Rice and Alex Pike are standing strong at the back.

46: We're back underway at the Riverside Stadium!

HT: There goes the half time whistle and the Hammers go in deservedly in front thanks to Jahmal Hector-Ingram's opener. Keep playing like they did after the goal, and there could be a few more for West Ham in the second period.

44: Beast of a challenge from Alex Pike as McAloon races down the left. He's stopped in his tracks by a big sliding tackle from the 19-year-old.

43: Couple of minutes for the Hammers to see out until the break here. They'll want to go in ahead, as their great play since the goal has warranted that.

39: More good play from Terry Westley's youngsters! Dan Kemp, all from his own doing, cuts inside on the right and curls an effort just wide of the far post. Superb by the teenager!

37: Great chance for the Hammers to double their lead! Quina's sharp footwork gives him space to feed Browne, and the striker, inside the box on the left, curls straight at Fryer. He'll be disappointed with that effort, because it was a great opening for the visitors.

34: West Ham are really stroking the ball around with confidence since they took the lead. Quina is seeing a lot of the ball and both full-backs - Westley and Neufville - are getting forward into advanced positions high up the field.

31: The Hammers hit Boro on the break for that goal, and they've stood strong since. Hector-Ingram will be delighted to get his first Premier League 2 goal of the season!

25: Gooooooallllll for the Hammers! Jahmal Hector-Ingram races clear and lobs the keeper before finishing from close range! Great stuff from the forward!

22: Browne is sithed down by Bryn Morris and the midfielder becomes tonight's second man to go into referee Karl Evans' book. That was a cynical challenge and Browne receives treatment for the second time this evening.

17: West Ham deal well with a spell of Middlesbrough pressure and break from a corner kick; Marcus Browne eventually is fed inside the box but his first touch is just too heavy as he runs with pace, and the keeper pounces on the loose ball. Browne clashed with the stopper and has picked up a knock for his troubles.

14: Thomas McAloon charges forward for Boro and Moses Makasi brings down the midfielder in the centre circle. The hosts were breaking at pace, so the yellow card comes out for the Hammer.

13: The Hammers work an opening down the right but Boro steal back possession and Hector-Ingram concedes a throw-in through some good closing down.

9: Quina tries his luck with a dead ball attempt from all over 25-30 yards, but keeper Fryer is behind it. First shot for the Hammers is a decent effort on target.

7: A long ball gets Morelli in again but, in plenty of space, he crosses low straight at Howes. Wasted chance for the visitors, that.

6: Decent chance for Boro as Joao Morelli is found with a clever chipped cross, but his volley canons into the ground and goes over Howes' bar.

5: Carlos De Pena finds some space on the left-hand-side to whip a ball in, but it's straight into the arms of Sam Howes. No chances of note just yet.

3: The Hammers are stroking the ball around of the slick surface in the north east, with Domingos Quina looking to get on the ball regularly early on.

1: We're off at the Riverside, with the Hammers kicking from left-to-right wearing their change strip of white shirts, blue shorts and white socks.

6:58pm: Out come the lads and we're minutes away from kick-off here!

6:50pm: The lads have returned to the dressing room for one last team talk before they re-enter the arena for tonight's PL2 fixture. Come on your Irons!

6:30pm: Bit of background on that Boro team: James Husband is a player with almost 100 Football League appearances and Carlos De Pena - a winger - has played six times for tonight's hosts in the league. Callum Cooke has been impressive so far in Premier League 2, we're told, so he's one to keep an eye on.

6:15pm: So, we're looking strong in Middlesbrough tonight. Jahmal Hector-Ingram, who has been on fire for the U18s this season, plays through the middle with Marcus Browne behind him. Domingos Quina will be hoping to replicate *that* strike against Leicester City, and we're sure to be strong at the back with Alex Pike partnering Declan Rice in the centre.

Middlesbrough: Fryer, McGhee, McGoldrick, Morris, Husband, Maloney, Morelli (Mondal 63), Cooke, McAloon, Tinkler, De Pena.

Subs not used: Johnson, Wheatley, Coulson, Pears.

Bookings: Morris 22, Maloney 84

PL2: Howes, Westley (Akinola 58), Pike, Rice, Neufville, Makasi, Quina, Kemp (Gordon 80), Browne, Sylvestre, Hector-Ingram (Ford 69).

6pm: Good evening. A warm welcome from the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough for tonight's PL2 clash against the Teessiders. West Ham will be looking to bounce back tonight from Monday's defeat to Aston Villa. Middlesbrough are down in ninth in the Premier League 2 table with the Hammers sitting in fourth, but a win for tonight's hosts would see them level on points with Terry Westley's men. The Londoners will be keen to ensure that doesn't happen. Team news shortly!
