Hammers famous cup win over United

When the Hammers were drawn to face Manchester United in the EFL Cup quarter-final, memories came flooding back from a famous victory under the lights back in November 2010.

It is ironic that the game is once again being played on November 30 as the last time the two teams met at this stage of the competition, it was a night that will always be remembered by every West Ham United supporter.

There have been many famous evenings at Upton Park, but the 4-0 win over Sir Alex Ferguson's side in the snow will always rate as one of the best matches in recent times.

Two goals from fans favourite Carlton Cole and a brace from Jonathan Spector ensured the Hammers reached their first League Cup semi-final for 20 years and beat a United team who were top of the table going into the game.

Spector was not known for his goalscoring abilities, but he was one of the heroes for the Hammers on a memorable night in east London.

Spector said: “I will always remember that game and for me it was one of my most memorable performances for the Club. We had some great performances from the team that night.

“I will probably be best remembered for scoring two goals as I wasn't renowned for scoring goals during my career, but Carlton Cole also got a brace.

“The team played brilliantly that night. I remember seeing the two goals at the closing ceremony at Upton Park and it brought back a lot of emotions and some fond memories.”

Cole added: "Hopefully we can have a repeat of that performance and 4-0 would be a great scoreline!

"It was a great game and I felt privileged to be part of West Ham that night so hopefully we can have another great result.

"We have shown we can beat the big teams so why can't we do the same thing again."

As the two teams prepare to meet once again in the last eight of the competition, West Ham TV takes a trip down memory lane to look back at one of the great cup games under the lights.

Tickets are still available for the game on Wednesday night. Fans should visit the ticketing and membership services office at Old Trafford which is open from 8am on Wednesday.
