Pro boxer gets skipper's support

Professional boxer Sam McNess met Hammers captain Mark Noble at the Boleyn Ground ahead of his Friday night fight
Boxer and Hammers fan Sam McNess contests his fourth professional fight tonight but first gained the support of Hammers skipper Mark Noble.

The club captain, ahead of his Testimonial match on Monday, met McNess at the Boleyn Ground to wish him luck for this evening’s fight against Darryl Sharp at York Hall.

It was a moment for McNess – who has won his previous three bouts – to saviour as he stepped onto the hallowed turf for the first time, having been a supporter of the Club all his life.

He said: “I’m happy to be here today to meet Mark Noble. He’s a West Ham legend in my eyes. He’s a true West Ham supporter so it’s great to have his support as well.

“I remember as a boy, I wanted to play for West Ham. To be here on the pitch is something I used to think about as a kid.

“I’ve fought [at York Hall] loads of times. It’s like the home of boxing for the east end so it’s similar to being a professional footballer being from West Ham. It’s amazing.”
