  • Sam is a local boy to the Hammers, having been born in Thurrock before moving north to Yorkshire.
  • He signed scholarship forms with Leeds United in 2010 after completing his secondary education and quickly progressed through the ranks.
  • After two years in the youth team, his first team debut came in a League Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town in August 2012, keeping his place in the team from thereon.
  • He didn’t have to wait long for his first professional goal, notching in a 3-0 League Cup win against Oxford later that same month.
  • Sam headed in an El-Hadji Diouf cross to score his first league goal for Leeds, as he helped the Whites secure a 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers in October 2012.
  • Byram’s breakthrough season ended with personal honours as he took the Leeds United Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Club Player of the Year awards.
  • Attracting interest from Southampton in the summer of 2014, Byram remained at Elland Road for Leeds’ Skybet Championship campaign.
  • A versatile player, Sam began this season playing as a right-forward in a 4-3-3 formation, and has also been known to play at right midfield.
