Ginge hails strongest squad

James Collins has hailed the current West Ham United squad as the best he has been involved in during his time at the Club.

Following Sunday’s victory at Blackburn Rovers, which sent the Hammers to the last eight of the Emirates FA Cup, Collins said Slaven Bilic’s men has quality all over the pitch.

He explained: “It is the strongest squad I’ve been involved in. In the 10 years I’ve had at the club it has been the strongest squad I’ve been involved in. The attacking players, the pace we have going forward. I’m just happy I’m defending for them and not against them! It is a great time.”

Dimitri Payet once again had an outstanding impact against Rovers, netting twice, setting another up and laying on six chances for his teammates.

Collins, understandably, was full of praise for the Frenchman.

He added: “He is on fire. He has been tremendous. When he is in the mood to play like he did today there are not many better in the league. We have a big game on Saturday so we have to take the confidence from this and move on.

“He’s just signed a new deal and I’ve just signed a new deal as well. You want to be part of a club that is moving forward. Everything is going in the right direction with the stadium, the way we are playing football, the signings we are making. Obviously a good Cup run makes us attractive for players to come too. We have been playing great and the season is going great so far.”
