Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round Replay

Angelo Ogbonna scored a dramatic late winner in the final seconds of extra-time to send West Ham United through to the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round and make it a hat-trick of wins over Liverpool this season.

The game was heading for a penalty shoot-out after Philippe Coutinho's free-kick had cancelled out a superb volley from Michail Antonio on the stroke of half-time.

But with just seconds left on the clock Dimiti Payet deliverted the perfect free-kick from the right hand side into the penalty area and Ogbonna rose the highest inside the area to direct a powerful header past Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet into the corner of the net.

The goal sparked wild celebrations around the Boleyn Ground and ensured the Hammers progressed to the next stage of the competition where they will now face Blackburn at Ewood Park on Sunday February 21.

The opening exchanges were dominated by the midfield but it was the home side who came the closest to breaking the deadlock on 16 minutes.

Payet played the perfect through ball to Joey O'Brien who saw his right-foot shot deflect off Lucas and the ball struck the post.

Liverpool also had chances to open the scoring and came close on 29 minutes when the ball fell to Joao Carlos Teixeira who was unmarked inside the box, but he drilled his shot wide of the post.

The Merseyside club came even closer on 34 minutes after Winston Reid gave the ball away and Benteke played the ball back for Coutinho who saw his shot come back off the post.

From the resulting corner the ball fell to Benteke at the far post and he saw his header kept out by Randolph.

The Hammers were denied by the woodwork once again on 38 minutes.

Payet curled a superb free-kick over the wall from the edge of the box which Mignolet just got a touch on and pushed the ball onto the post.

The rebound fell to Kouyate who saw his header kept out by the Liverpool keeper diving away to his left.

The home side were finally rewarded when they opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

Payet released Valencia into the box who played the perfect ball into Antonio and he made no mistake firing a spectacular volley past Mignolet into the roof of the net.

The lead was short-lived as Liverpool quickly drew level three minutes into the second half.

Benteke was brought down on the edge of the box and Coutinho struck the free-kick low past the wall and his shot trickled past Randolph into the back of the net.

The home side suffered a major blow on 64 minutes when Winston Reid was forced to leave the field with a hamstring injury and was replaced by James Collins.

West Ham then had strong claims for a penalty turned down on 65 minutes after Valencia appeared to be brought down inside the area by Tiago Llori but referee Roger East ignored the strong pleas from the West Ham players and supporters and waved for play to continue.

The Hammers suffered more injury problems late in the game when both Kouyate and Joey O'Brien were forced to leave the field.

And it was Liverpool who could have scored a late winner when Benteke's free-kick was superbly kept out by Randolph diving away to his right hand side.

The game went into extra-time and after Mignolet made a fine save to deny Noble's curling shot from the edge of the box, Benteke had two golden chances to put the away side into the lead.

The former Aston Villa striker first struck the ball inches past the post and then he was clean through on goal but his low drive was superbly kept out by Randolph.

Substitute Daniel Sturridge also came close when he made space on the edge of the box and fired his shot inches over the bar.

But it was the Hammers who were left celebrating another famous victory over Liverpool this season when Payet's free-kick fell perfectly for Ogbonna inside the box and he made no mistake directing a powerful header past Mignolet into the corner of the net.

The Hammers will now head to Ewood Park in the next round full of confidence and if they manage to get through that tie, will be just ninety minutes away from playing at Wembley in the semi-finals.
