- Edmilison Fernandes was born in the town of Sion in south western Switzerland on 15 April 1996
- Fernandes is the cousin of former Manchester City and Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes, former Everton and Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes and ex-Sunderland midfielder Cabral
- The youngster was born in Switzerland of Portuguese and Cape Verdean descent
- Fernandes was just 17 years and two months old when he made his first-team debut for Sion in a 4-2 Swiss Super League win over FC Zurich on 1 June 2013
- A first senior goal arrived in a 2-2 draw at home to FC Luzern on 1 March 2015 – one of two he scored in 48 Super League appearances
- Fernandes lost just one of the nine Swiss Cup ties he played in and scored in the 2015 final victory over FC Basel
- The central midfielder assisted both goals on his European debut – a 2-1 UEFA Europa League victory over Russian club Rubin Kazan in September 2015
- Fernandes played every minute of Sion’s Europa League campaign last season, when they finished second in a group containing Liverpool before being knocked out by Portuguese side Braga in the Round of 32
- Fernandes chalked up an assist in his final game for Sion – a 2-1 Super League defeat at Grasshoppers on Sunday
- In total, the 20-year-old played 65 times for Sion’s first team and 41 more games for the club’s U21 side in the Promotion League
