The background 

The West Ham United Development Squad are aiming to cap off a successful season by winning the much coveted Barclays U21 Premier League trophy with a two legged final against Hull City.

The Hammers play host first as they welcome the Tigers to the Boleyn Ground for the final ever U21 game at the historic stadium, on Monday 25 April.

Following Monday’s fascinating encounter, the Hammers will travel north for the second leg of the final. Kick off at the KC Stadium on Wednesday 4 May is also 7pm, entry is free

Roads to the final

West Ham United

The Hammers started their cup campaign with a 4-0 away win over Exeter City in December.

Following that triumph, the claret and blues were dealt home ties with Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool.

Against the Cottagers, extra time was needed to separate the two sides; thankfully an Elliot Lee brace helped the Hammers progress 3-2 winners.

Up next, Rovers proved stern opposition however a goal each from Djair Parfitt-Williams and Reece Oxford secured safe passage to the semis where Liverpool loomed.

An enthralling game ensued as the Irons progressed thanks to a Stephen Hendrie thunderbolt following goals from Doneil Henry and Marcus Browne.

Hull City

Monday’s opponents Hull kicked off their campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra.

The Tigers then hit the road by overcoming a very strong West Bromwich Albion side 2-1 and then despatching arch rivals Millwall 3-1.

In the semis, the Tigers overcame Huddersfield Town on penalties in a tense semi-final, 0-0 after 120 minutes, the Tigers progressed 4-3 on penalties at the St. John’s Stadium.
