Classic match
West Ham United 3-1 Sheffield United
Division One
26 September 1964
Johnny Byrne helped himself to two goals, one from the spot, as West Ham picked up a win in front of 22,526 people who turned up to the Boleyn Ground.
John Sissons got the other as the Hammers put Sheffield United to the sword.
Byrne would end the season as top scorer, netting 30 goals in 45 games as the team enjoyed a ninth place finish in Division One.
It was however the heroics of Alan Sealey which caught the eye, as he scored twice as the Hammers beat TSV Munchen to win the European Cup Winners Cup later that season.
