From the Boardroom - David Gold

I was able to go and see Slaven and the first-team squad at training on Friday and the spirit among the whole squad looks so good at the moment.

We have been working towards building a strong squad like the one we have now for the last five-years and it was great to see the players at Chadwell Heath and see it all come to fruition.

We have got some serious players that we have brought into the Club that I am confident are going to make a difference.

If I am picking the team for myself I would have great difficulty choosing who would be in it. That is the proof that we have got some quality players and they are fighting for their position. That is something that we wanted.

Seeing Andy Carroll come off the training pitch when he has had a full session is great to see. I would love to see him score and he has obviously been building up to this moment. He has had a tough time but there is no reason why he cannot play the next five or six years without an injury.

We are looking in good shape and I am hugely confident.

We have just got to overcome our home form and I don't think it is a big problem and I'm sure it can be corrected. I know Slaven knows the pressures that the players are under at home and it will be resolved.

We will put out a good team against Newcastle and we will give a good account of ourselves.

You don't go away and beat Arsenal and Liverpool without being a good side. If we had won one of those games people will say we had our day, but to do it twice tells me we are a decent side and we have added players since then.

You have got to be optimistic but we need to do it at home and I cannot wait for Monday.

I'm sure Slaven will be hoping for a similar outcome to the last time he faced Steve McClaren at Wembley. It will be a big night for all of us.

Newcastle have only got two points and are not scoring goals and they will be battling as well to get something from the game.

It is a tough one to call but I am confident after our Liverpool result that we should look pretty good on Monday.
