West Ham United went into their League Cup encounter with Second Division Bolton having won their last two league matches by scorelines of 4-0 and 5-0 and their free-scoring exploits continued in the cup.
A host of West Ham legends were on the score sheet as they moved comfortably into round three with Trevor Brooking, Harry Redknapp and John Sissons all grabbing a goal each.
World Cup winners Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst were also on target, with the latter netting a hat-trick, including one from the penalty spot.
The Hammers played Coventry in the next round but exited the competition after losing 3-2 in a replay following a 0-0 draw at the Boleyn Ground.
In the league, the Hammers managed an eighth-place finish while their cup conquerors Coventry narrowly avoided relegation finishing 20th.
