West Ham United 3-2 Watford
Championship
27 November 2004

The Hammers bounced back from the hurt of defeat to Millwall in their previous game by defeating Watford in a real thriller at the Boleyn Ground on this day eleven years ago.

Alan Pardew's men were in the middle of an ultimately successful season in the Championship and had to show their mettle to come from two goals down against the Hornets.

Brynjar Gunnarsson struck with just five minutes on the clock to give Watford the lead, and Bruce Dyer's second, 16 minutes later, had the away fans in raptures.

But, crucially, West Ham fought back to bring the game level by the break, first Nigel Reo-Coker scoring on 28 minutes, then Darren Powell adding an almost instantaneous equaliser.

West Ham had the momentum and they ensured they would make full use of it when Sergei Rebrov struck the winner with 58 minutes on the clock.

The Hammers went on to win promotion back to the top flight via the Play-Offs, while Watford ended in 18th.
