Classic match (1)

West Ham United 2-0 TSV 1860 Munich
European Cup Winners' Cup final
19 May 1965

Wembley has proven to be a happy hunting ground for the Hammers on 19 May, with two of the most memorable games in the Club's history falling on this date.

First was the European Cup Winners' Cup final, a year on from when West Ham had beaten Preston North End at the same venue to lift the FA Cup.

Having defeated La Gantoise, Sparta Prague, Lausanne and Real Zaragoza to reach the final, only 1860 Munich stood in their way as the Hammers looked to win their first European honours.

And despite not having played for nearly a month following their semi-final success over Zaragoza, there were no signs of rustiness as the Londoners ran out 2-0 winners.

Alan Sealey notched both goals, scoring in the 70th and 72nd minutes, to set the seal on a remarkable couple of years for West Ham.

Classic match (2)

West Ham United 2-1 Blackpool
Championship Play-Off final
19 May 2012

West Ham's other Wembley date on 19 May came in 2012 - and what a pivotal match it turned out to be as they clinched their place back in the top flight.

Sam Allardyce's side had finished third in the Championship, while Blackpool were fifth and Cardiff City and Birmingham City had been overcome respectively to set up the final showdown.

Carlton Cole gave West Ham, roared on by 40,000 of their fans inside Wembley, a 35th minute lead, but Thomas Ince hit back just after half time to put the contest back on a knife-edge.

Both teams carved out chances, but it was the Hammers who took victory, Ricardo Vaz Te knocking home from close range with only three minutes left to play.

That gave Blackpool no time to recover and took West Ham back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
