Development Squad forward Djair Parfitt-Williams described his sensational goal against Everton as his best goal of the season.
The hugely talented 18-year-old has impressed since making the step up from the U18s to the U21s and he capped another lively performance off with a superb individual goal.
Descirbing his second goal of the season for the Dev Squad, he said: “Somebody crossed it over and I sprinted to go get it. I went past one guy and went past another and put it in the top corner.
“That goal tonight might be the best one I’ve scored. I scored a good goal against Brighton that I was happy with, today’s one was up there too.”
In a very even game, Everton came away with the points due to a large slice of luck as Kieran Dowell’s free-kick took a wicked deflection that gave Raphael Spiegel no chance of saving. Added to that, the initial awarding of the free-kick was disputed as Amos Nasha was incensed when his sliding challenge was deemed reckless.
Despite the defeat, Parfitt-Williams remained relatively upbeat about his sides’ performance: “I think we created some good opportunities, maybe we could’ve passed the ball a bit quicker at times but overall it pretty good. It wasn’t our worst performance, it wasn’t our best performance.
“It was a good effort from the boys. They were a bit more clinical. The first goal came from a mistake and the second goal was a luck deflection for them. I think we created some good opportunities in the first half and in the second half too. We were just unlucky.”
Alongside Parfitt-Williams’ eye-catching performance, fellow attacker Grady Diangana also caught the eye with a series of turns and flicks that almost led to a much coveted equaliser.
“Me and Grady do a lot of work together in training, we do a lot of different drills and know each other’s games. Today it came out on the pitch which is good.”
Reflecting on an impressive season, which has seen the 18-year-old scored 11 goals in total as well as provide several assists, he surmised: “I think personally I’ve had a pretty good season. I scored some goals and made some assists, had some good performances. Made the step from U18s to U21s so overall I’m pretty happy.
“Everybody will be up for the game against Chelsea. We’re up for every game, but Chelsea are a very good team so we have to ready and at our best.”
