Zarate: We have it all to do in Romania

West Ham United forward Mauro Zarate admits he was unable to celebrate his fantastic individual strike and was unhappy that the team could only manage a 2-2 draw against AFC Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League.

Zarate scored a superb effort early in the second half to net his first competitive goal at the Boleyn Ground to put the Hammers into a two-goal lead.

But the dismissal of James Collins changed the game and Astra scored two late goals to keep the tie wide open.

The Argentine forward knows West Ham United will have to be at their very best in the second leg if they are to reach the play-off round.

Zarate said: “It was bad in the dressing room after the game because we scored two goals and in the second half we had to play a little bit more, but that is football.

“It was great for me to score a goal but I am also very sad as this is not a good result for us.

“We will have another tough game in Romania next week. They will attack and we have to win. It will be a good match for everyone.”

Zarate was also unhappy to see fellow forward Enner Valencia carried off on a stretcher with a knee injury midway through the first half.

He added: “I have to speak with Enner. I think he turned his knee and we will see what happens.”
