Centre-half James Collins has told West Ham TV that competition for places across the pitch can only be a positive for the Hammers.
The Wales international lined up alongside new boys Angelo Ogbonna and Dimitri Payet in Saturday's 3-2 pre-season victory at Southend United, and says the presence the Italian and his fellow summer signings will only raise the level across the board.
"We've seen Dimitri in training since he came in and he's obviously a world-class player," said Ginge. "He was the best player on the pitch by a mile so there's exciting things to come from him.
"At the back, Angelo communicates well, is a quick, strong defender and is a good addition to the squad. He is big boy, but he is quick with it, which obviously helps as well.
"The squad is looking good and strong and I'm not sure our business is done yet. The signings we have made have been superb and the lads have come in and settled into the squad, which is a good sign.
"Fair play to the Club and to the Chairmen. They have put their hands in their pockets and signed some world-class players, which is showing in training. I am training against these players and they are top-drawer.
"It's going to be tough to get a starting place but that's what it's all about being at West Ham, which is a big club. With competition for places, whoever is playing knows they need to play well to keep their shirt. That's what a club of this size needs."
