Stat's a Fact - Villa

A closer look at Pedro Obiang's performance against Southampton
Pedro Obiang might have had to be patient when waiting for his chance from the start since joining the Hammers - but he grabbed it with both hands at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Since arriving from Sampdoria in the summer, the former Spain U21 international has made eleven Barclays Premier League appearances.

Five of those have been from the start, and more performances like that at Aston Villa will surely mean he becomes more of a fixture in the team.

Obiang was the Hammers' most effective outfield player according to football stats site WhoScored.com after giving an all-action performance in midfield.

His rating of 7.5 was only bettered by Rudy Gestede from either team, as he provided an effective shield for the back four.

Obiang's tally of tackles - five - was the most on the pitch, whilst he also made three interceptions to help Adrian and his back four in their quest.

On the ball, his pass completion rate of 84.4 percent was a tidy one, while his defensive effectiveness was also apparent in his six clearances and five ball recoveries.

With one shot on target too, it was an impressive all round performance from the Spaniard.
